Sustainable initiatives

Good conscience is the thread of everything we do. This can only be done because we have a close and trusting relationship with our carefully selected handful of suppliers. We know that our clothes are produced by people with good working conditions. We know that they can deliver and that they deliver a high quality. And that the materials have been selected with an eye to sustainability initiatives. For us, sustainability is more than a trend. It is an attitude, and we sincerely agree on where our materials come from, how the clothes are produced, by whom and what imprint it has on the environment. Like that it is a priority that our packaging, hangtags, and other things live up to certified materials. It is important to us that our products meet BCI, Oekotex and other internationally recognized standards, so that you can shop I SAY safely with a clear conscience towards your body and your surroundings. Your skin will thank you. I SAY is proud to be able to supply Oeko-tex certified products. Oeko-tex is your guarantee that your new product from I SAY does not harm the body.

It is not possible to see or feel if there are harmful chemicals in the clothes, and only a few chemicals disappear after washing. Oeko-tex is the world's leading label for textiles that have been tested for substances that are harmful to health and the environment. The intention behind the Oeko-Tex scheme is that clothes sold with the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 label must be made of materials that are protected against harming people and that you can therefore be trusted to use. With your Oeko-tex certified product, all materials and components must comply with the test criteria in STANDARD 100.

The test criteria are performed uniformly worldwide by the independent OEKO-TEX® institutes, such as the Danish Technological Institute, and can be applied to all textile products from thread to the end product.

BCI cotton

At I SAY, we strive to produce our clothes with more sustainable actions. That is why we are proud members of BCI - Better Cotton Initiative. At present, 67% of our cotton consumption consists of cotton made from BCI cotton and organic cotton. Our goal for 2025 is that our purchases of cotton should consist of 80% more BCI cotton and organic cotton.

BCI is:
- Better for the people
- Better for the environment
- Better for the future

BCI is a non-profit organization that trains cotton farmers in how to use water more efficiently, cares about nature, reduces the use of harmful chemicals and at the same time respects workers' rights and well-being. BCI cotton is purchased through a system of "mass balance". Being a member of BCI is one of many steps in our strategy of sustainable initiatives. We are proud to be part of a movement that is changing the cotton industry.

Recycled polyester

We think it's amazing that we can turn used plastic bottles into fashionable clothes. Polyester is one of the most popular materials in the textile industry because the fiber is so strong. That's why polyester clothes are long-lasting, easy to hold, and clean - they also do not curl!

Many plastic bottles float around in the world's garden, while others are thrown out at random places. The bottles pollute nature and take more than 1000 years to decompose. Fortunately, the bottles can be given new life, and contribute to a sustainable initiative to production of polyester, which we can all benefit from.

Recycled polyester is made from used plastic bottles and transformed into new polyester fibers. The recycled polyester we use here at I SAY is "post-consumer", which means that the bottles have previously been used by consumers.

In this way, we help to recycle the many plastic bottles. For a recycled polyester T-shirt, approx. 10 pint PET plastic bottles.

Fabric made in Denmark

Danish design and production are close to our hearts. And some of our yarns are knitted into fabric at our partner Sontex in Ikast, Denmark.

In addition, our locally produced fabrics are all either Oekotex certified or knitted from BCI yarns.

It means a lot to us that we can support the local production in Denmark, and thus also contribute to a sustainable initiative in the procurement of fabric.

EcoVero viscose

We are very pleased to be able to provide a sustainable initiative for viscose - EcoVero. We are always aware of making new sustainable initiatives.

EcoVero production is only a few years old. EcoVero is made in a controlled process using wood from certified sources and uses less water and emissions than in the production of generic viscose. During the production of EcoVero, almost all chemicals used are reused. A special manufacturing system makes it possible to activate EcoVero-labeled viscose fibers in the final product, even after long textile processing and transformation steps through the value chain.

The EcoVero fibers are certified with the EU eco-label, which is exclusively awarded to products and services that live up to high environmental standards.

Organic cotton

Cotton is one of the most popular materials for clothing, due to its many good features. The cotton fibers are long, strong and soft and therefore make your new product in organic cotton long-lasting and comfortable to wear.

The plant produces white flowers that turn pink, blue and purple before falling off. During this transformation, the part of the plant that has the cotton fibers is formed. The fibers are harvested and most often spun into yarn or thread.

Just as with organic vegetables, pesticides and inorganic fertilizers must not be used when growing organic cotton. This means that you get a piece of clothing where the yarn is made completely without the use of toxic chemicals, and it is of course better for both yourself and the environment.

We strive to use organic cotton or BCI cotton when producing cotton clothing. In addition to that, our I SAY label in all of our clothing is made of organic cotton.

The FSC is a sustainability initiative to the management of forests. They ensure care for people, animals, and nature in forests, where we can use products made of wood with an eye to sustainable initiatives.

FSC focuses on many different areas of effort and activities to strengthen the FSC brand. In particular, they are working to create a better system for the many companies, forest owners, and organizations that work with FSC.

FSC-certified forests are completely protected, and no more wood is felled than the forest itself can reproduce. Endangered animals and plants are protected from these forests. As far as possible, local labor is used, however, the forest workers must have proper safety equipment, wages, and the right education.

In an FSC-certified product, all links in the supply chain must also have an FSC certification. So you can buy wood and paper from managed forests with sustainable actions. We use FSC-certified products for, among other things, our packaging and hangtags.
