We collaborate with Better Cotton to improve global cotton production.
Better Cotton is the world's leading sustainability initiative for cotton. Better Cotton's mission is to help cotton communities survive and thrive while protecting and restoring the environment. They promote best practices in more responsible production methods by educating the agricultural community that grows cotton. Better Cotton is sourced via a mass balance system and cannot be physically traced to end products. Better Cotton is not a product, but a cause shared by all who care about cotton and its sustainable future.
Currently, 66% of our cotton consumption is sourced as BCI cotton and organic cotton. Our goal for 2027 is that 80% of our total cotton purchases are sourced as either Better Cotton or organic cotton.
I SAY's membership number is 1005621.
LENCING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose is a viscose fiber brand aimed at ensuring responsible production for a more sustainable environment. The viscose fiber is certified with the EU Ecolabel, which is only awarded to products and services that have a significantly lower environmental impact throughout their lifetime. The raw material for the fibers is wood, which is converted into textile fibers using 50% less water and CO2 emissions than the production of generic viscose. Finally, the water is purified before being returned to nature. A special manufacturing system makes it possible to identify LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose fibers in the final product, even after long textile processing and transformation steps through the value chain. When you buy clothes marked with LENZING™ ECOVERO™ on the tag, you can be 100% sure of the source of the sustainable viscose. I SAY has a LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose product license on all styles.
STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is one of the world's best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. It stands for confidence and high product safety for consumers. If an item carries the STANDARD 100 label, you can be sure that all components of this article, i.e. fabric, thread, button, zipper, and other accessories, have been tested for harmful substances, and that the item is therefore harmless to human health. With your OEKO-TEX certified product, all materials and components must meet the testing criteria of STANDARD 100. The testing criteria are uniformly carried out worldwide by the independent OEKO-TEX® institutes, such as the Technological Institute in Denmark, and can be applied to all textile products from yarn to finished product.
Cotton is one of the most popular materials for clothing due to its many great features. However, we must not forget that the extensive production has both human and environmental consequences. We strive to use organic cotton or Better Cotton when producing cotton clothing. Just like with organic vegetables, organic cotton cultivation cannot use pesticides and inorganic fertilizers. This means that you get a piece of clothing where the yarn is made entirely without the use of toxic chemicals, and it is, of course, better for both yourself and the environment.
We think it's absolutely amazing that we can transform used plastic bottles into fashion. Polyester is one of the most popular materials in the textile industry because the fiber is so strong. That's why polyester clothing is long-lasting, easy to care for and clean, and it doesn't wrinkle! Many plastic bottles float around in the world's oceans, while others are randomly discarded. The bottles pollute nature and take more than 1000 years to break down. But fortunately, the bottles can be given new life and contribute to a sustainable initiative for the production of polyester, which we can all benefit from. Recycled polyester is made from used plastic bottles and converted into new polyester fibers. The recycled polyester we use here at I SAY is "post-consumer", which means the bottles were previously used by consumers. This way, we're helping to recycle the many plastic bottles. It takes about 10 half-liter PET plastic bottles to make a t-shirt of recycled polyester.
FSC is a sustainable initiative for wood production. They ensure consideration for people, animals, and nature in forests where we can use products made of wood with sustainability initiatives in mind. FSC focuses on many different areas and activities to strengthen the FSC label. In particular, they work to create a better system for the many companies, forest owners, and organizations that work with FSC. FSC-certified forests are completely protected, and no more wood is harvested than the forest itself can reproduce. Endangered animals and plants are protected in these forests. Local labor is used as much as possible, but forest workers must have proper safety equipment, wages, and the right education. In an FSC-certified product, every link in the supply chain must also have an FSC certification. So you can buy wood and paper from forests with sustainable initiatives. I SAY uses FSC-certified products for, among other things, our packaging and hangtags.
We know that our clothes are produced by people with good working conditions. We know that they can deliver and that they deliver a high quality. And that the materials have been selected with an eye to sustainability initiatives. For us, sustainability is more than a trend. It is an attitude, and we sincerely agree on where our materials come from, how the clothes are produced, by whom and what imprint it has on the environment. Like that it is a priority that our packaging, hangtags, and other things live up to certified materials. It is important to us that our products meet BCI, Oekotex and other internationally recognized standards, so that you can shop I SAY safely with a clear conscience towards your body and your surroundings.
